BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Tuesday’s assembly of the Raleigh County Commission was notable in that it featured an appearance from Senator Rollan Roberts, who revealed that the Beckley Little League organization would be receiving a $10,000 award.
The Republican Senator for District 9 made a surprise appearance about 15 minutes into the session, which also saw discussion of such issues as a potential new animal shelter, renaming of streets and more.
“I’m thankful that I was able to get $10,000 for the Beckley Babe Ruth Little League here,” said Roberts, who spoke briefly during the session. “There’s a lot more to be done, but I believe this will help.”
Senator Roberts pointed out that, of all the issues faced by the community at large, ensuring that the children are adequately accommodated is among the most important.
“For ever and ever, we have to take care of those kids,” Roberts declared. “If we don’t give them positive things to do and good, safe places to do them, then we’re going to be hurting as a community.”
