CABELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for thousands of Cabell County residents Tuesday morning.
A release from the City of Huntington indicates that the advisory has been issued following maintenance at West Virginia American Water’s treatment plant in Huntington.
The maintenance, which reportedly has been completed, could result in lower water pressure in some areas and loss of service altogether in areas of higher elevation.
Though maintenance is no longer ongoing and restoration of full service for all areas is anticipated to occur sooner than later, customers in affected areas will be on a Boil Water Advisory in the interim as analysis is conducted to confirm safety for consumption and general use.
The collecting of samples and subsequent testing will take a minimum of 24 hours, per the statement.
The statement itself from the City of Huntington can be seen in full below, and additional LOOTPRESS coverage for Cabell County can be found here.
“IMPORTANT NOTICE
West Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for 17,440 customers in Huntington and Barboursville.
Customers could be experiencing lower pressure or loss of service in higher elevations. The advisory follows scheduled maintenance at West Virginia American Water’s Huntington Water Treatment Plant.
Maintenance has been completed and service should return shortly for customers who have been impacted. Customers will be notified of the advisory by the American Water emergency notification system.
Once service is restored, affected customers should boil their water before consumption until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water. Customers are asked to bring water used for drinking, cooking, bathing and brushing teeth to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use.
West Virginia American Water also recommends the following steps:
— Throw away beverages and ice cubes if made with tap water
— Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking
— Provide pets with boiled water after cooling
— Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water. Most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms.
— Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.
Once the system recovers, West Virginia American Water will collect additional water quality samples, which require a minimum of 24 hours for analysis.
Customers will be notified in the same manner once the analysis is complete and the advisory can be lifted. For more information, contact West Virginia American Water’s customer service center at 1-800-685-8660.
