OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Several counties partook in the 2022 Municipal Election races on Tuesday and results have already begun to trickle in.
The Town of Oceana – one of a number of Wyoming County areas, including the Town of Pineville and the City of Mullens to host elections Tuesday – opened polls at the Town Hall at 6:30am to allow local residents to do their civic duty.
Polls closed at 7:30pm, and results had been tallied roughly a half hour later.
Tom Evans Jr. ran unopposed for mayor, and accrued 68 votes for an easy victory.
Jim Cook retained the role of town recorder, accumulating 61 votes, while the opposition, Lynneia Bailey received 10 votes as a write-in candidate.
Seven candidates threw their hats in the ring for a position on the Oceana Town Council for which five votes were to be cast by each voter.
The results for the town council race are reported as follows:
Chuck Shirley – 68
Joetta “Aliff” Walker – 66
Don Morgan – 43
Jacob “Jake” Jones – 41
Tammy Gallion – 40
Marie Green – 32
Gary Spence – 11
It should be noted that election results are not finalized until the election canvass, which is set to take place Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 7:00pm.
