MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Federal indictments unveiled on Wednesday have dismantled a pair of drug trafficking organizations based in Baltimore which have been supplying large amounts of fentanyl to West Virginia and have caused at least two deaths.
As reported by the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, 34 individuals based out of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia have been indicted on charges relating to a number of illicit substances including Fentanyl, Heroin, and more in Mineral County and Hampshire County. Reports indicate that the distribution of these substances have led to a spike in overdoses both fatal and non-fatal throughout the region. Much of the fentanyl distributed is reported to have had high levels of purity and a purple tint which distinguished it from drugs being sold by competitors.
The first indictment alleges Kentrel Anthony Rollins, aka “T-Rock,” to have been the leader of a fentanyl distribution operation in Hampshire County and elsewhere from January 2020 to October 2021. As revealed by court documents, in addition to sale of drugs, Rollins was involved with firearms trafficking and the trading of guns for drugs. Many of these firearms are reported to have been acquired by a straw purchaser on the organization’s behalf. This matter, which also includes the alleged trafficking of heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, has seen 12 individuals charged.
The second indictment alleges Sean Jarred Davis, age 31 also of Baltimore, to have been the leader of a conspiracy for the distribution of over 40 grams of fentanyl, along with heroin, in Hampshire County and elsewhere from February 2021 to January 2023. Reports indicate that 22 individuals have been charged in this case.
“Fentanyl continues to be the number one threat to public safety in the region and much of it flows here from Baltimore,” said United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld. “The investigators are to be commended for their outstanding work in identifying the sources of supply and halting their operations.”
Leading these investigations was the HIDTA-funded initiative, the Potomac Highlands Drug Task Force, which consists of members from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the West Virginia State Police, the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, the Hardy County Sheriff’s Office, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, and the Keyser Police Department, with assistance from the Hampshire County Prosecutor’s Office.
The cases are being prosecuted on behalf of the government by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher. Additional defendants as released by the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department can be seen below, and additional LOOTPRESS crime coverage can be found here.
