CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston has issued a forecast calling for rain to transition to snow in parts of the region by Thursday, with significant snow accumulation expected in higher elevations.
Low clouds and drizzle will linger through Wednesday morning before a strong cold front moves through the area during the day, bringing rain and gusty winds.

As the front pushes through, colder air will follow late Wednesday into the night.
An upper-level disturbance will bring additional precipitation from Thursday through early Saturday.
Rain will dominate in the lowlands, but a shift to snow or a wintry mix is expected, particularly in the mountainous areas.
Higher elevations are likely to see significant snow accumulation, while the lowlands may receive a trace to 2 inches by Friday night.
Strong winds are also forecast, with gusts exceeding 30 mph in the lowlands and 40 mph in higher elevations.
The NWS warns of potential damage to tree limbs and scattered power outages.
Residents are advised to prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions and exercise caution when traveling, especially in areas prone to snow and ice.
