CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Federal disaster assistance has been approved for West Virginia to support recovery efforts in areas impacted by Post-Tropical Storm Helene, which caused damage from September 25 to September 28, 2024.
The declaration, announced Monday by FEMA, allows federal funding to be distributed to individuals and businesses in Mercer County.
Assistance may include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses.
Additional programs are also available to aid recovery for affected residents and business owners.
Federal funds will also be provided on a cost-sharing basis to support statewide hazard mitigation measures, aimed at reducing future disaster risks.
Georgeta Dragoiu has been appointed as the Federal Coordinating Officer to oversee federal recovery operations. FEMA noted that additional designations could be made if further assessments reveal a need.
Residents and business owners who suffered losses in Mercer County can apply for assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362, or through the FEMA App.
Those using relay services, such as video relay or captioned telephone services, should provide FEMA with their service number when applying.
