MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A tragic accident occurred on Thursday, December 12, 2024, when a pedestrian was fatally struck on the WV Route 9 Bypass near the 55-mile marker in Berkeley County.
At approximately 9:55 p.m., Trooper D.E. Smith of the West Virginia State Police responded to the crash involving two vehicles and an adult female pedestrian.
According to the preliminary investigation, the woman was walking in the eastbound lane of WV Route 9 when she was struck by the front bumper of a 2021 Volvo XC60 traveling in the same direction. Moments later, she was struck again by a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have notified the victim’s next of kin.
The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Smith.
