(LOOTPRESS) – Dollar General has announced plans to close dozens of store locations in 2025 as the company faces economic challenges and shifting consumer spending habits.
In its recent fourth-quarter and fiscal year 2024 report, the retailer revealed that 96 Dollar General locations will close in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

Additionally, 45 pOpshelf stores, the company’s home decor retail brand, are slated for closure.
However, six pOpshelf locations will be converted into Dollar General stores instead of shutting down.
The closures stem from a “store portfolio optimization review,” which considered factors such as individual store performance, projected future earnings, and overall operating conditions.
Company officials have not yet disclosed the specific locations or closure timelines for the affected stores.
Despite a challenging financial quarter, Dollar General reported a 4.5% increase in fourth-quarter net sales, reaching $10.3 billion. Fiscal year net sales also grew by 5%.
However, the company’s operating profit for the fourth quarter fell by 49.2% to $294.2 million.
Dollar General joins a growing list of retailers adjusting their store footprints in response to evolving economic conditions and consumer confidence trends.
