FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Commission has named Tara Tyree as the new County Assessor, following the retirement of longtime officeholder Eddie Young.
Tyree, who currently serves as Chief Deputy Assessor, was selected by the commission to complete the remainder of Young’s term after the formal application process.

In a recent interview with LOOTPRESS, Young expressed confidence in Tyree’s qualifications and leadership, calling her the most capable candidate to continue the work of the office.
Tyree will officially assume her new role on Friday, August 1, 2025, becoming the first woman to serve as County Assessor in Fayette County history.
A member of the Republican Party, Tyree will have the opportunity to seek election to a full term in 2026.
She is scheduled to be sworn in today, Wednesday, July 30, at 12:00 p.m. in the courtroom of the Honorable Judge Tom Fast at the Fayette County Courthouse.
The Fayette County Republican Party has expressed support for Tyree’s appointment and is encouraging members of the community to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
