ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University is celebrating another year of enrollment growth, continuing the upward trend from last year’s record numbers.
“I am elated to see more students joining the Concord family. This growth is a testament to the hard work of our faculty and staff and the strength of our programs. As we continue to expand opportunities, enrich campus life, and invest in our facilities, Concord will remain a special place to learn, grow, and thrive,” said Dr. Bethany Meighen, Concord University President.
As of the first week of the Fall 2025 semester, enrollment totaled 1,974 students, including 1,632 undergraduates and 345 graduate students. This marks a 1.07% overall increase and a 3.85% rise compared to Fall 2024’s Week 1 figures.
Of the incoming first-year students, 34% earned college credits while in high school, averaging 20 completed hours before entering college. The undergraduate class includes 461 first-time freshmen and 170 transfer students.
This year’s student body represents 32 U.S. states, all 50 West Virginia counties, and 32 different countries. Concord also has 605 student-athletes across its 16 athletic programs.
Top undergraduate majors this fall include Business Administration, Elementary Education, Social Work, Health Sciences, and Nursing.
University officials say Health Sciences programs have been a major factor in the institution’s recent growth, particularly the new Physician Assistant program, which welcomed its first cohort this semester.
Athletics also played a significant role in recruitment, with Mountain Lion coaches working to attract new student-athletes. Much of the effort was led by new Head Football Coach Cody Edwards, who launched a strong preseason strategy to prepare the team for the year ahead.
In addition to academic and athletic recruitment, the university and the CU Foundation awarded more than $6 million in scholarships to support accessibility and affordability.
Enrollment numbers are subject to change as the semester progresses, with a final census expected in the coming weeks from the Office of Institutional Research.
