According to the criminal complaint, deputies were dispatched after a 911 caller reported that a male was threatening her with a gun and had just entered the kitchen.
The caller indicated she could not speak freely because the suspect might notice the call and destroy her phone.
Deputies arrived at the home and made contact with Mariani outside. He was secured without incident. Inside the residence, officers found the caller visibly shaken and tearful.
She reported that an argument had occurred over approximately $100,000 she had moved into a bank account inaccessible to Mariani. The argument escalated after Mariani, reportedly using methamphetamine, asked about the location of a firearm.
According to the report, Mariani located a gun under the television and allegedly pointed it at the caller’s head from a distance of about three feet, threatening to “blow up the house.”
The suspect then left the immediate area, at which point the caller called 911. Officers later recovered an Sig Sauer pistol from the kitchen, loaded with a magazine but without a round in the chamber.
A straw commonly associated with meth use and a container holding a white crystal-like substance, believed to be methamphetamine, were also found.
When questioned, Mariani acknowledged the argument but claimed the gun was secured in the kitchen because he feared the caller might use it against him.
The victim provided an audio statement indicating that Mariani had previously threatened her with a weapon, had access to firearms, had threatened to kill her, and that his behavior had escalated over the past few months. She also noted his history of substance use.
Mariani is facing charges of Wanton Endangerment involving a firearm, Brandishing, and Domestic Assault. He is currently at Western Regional Jail on a $30,000 bond.
