WASHINGTON, D.C. (LOOTPRESS) — President Donald J. Trump issued a statement praising the family of Andrew Wolfe, a National Guardsman who was seriously injured while protecting the U.S. Capitol.
In his remarks, Trump said Wolfe is currently recovering from his injuries, noting that his parents, brother, and friends have remained by his side throughout the healing process.
“The great family of Andrew Wolfe — our wonderful National Guardsman who was badly injured protecting the Capital of the United States of America. He is in the process of healing. His parents, brother, and all of his friends are praying,” Trump said.
According to the statement, Trump met with Wolfe’s family in the Oval Office, describing them as “fantastic American Patriots.”
Wolfe was one of two West Virginia National Guardsmen shot during the incident. Specialist Sarah Beckstrom of Summersville, the other Guardsman, succumbed to her injuries last Thursday.
Governor Morrisey noted that the only request from Andrew’s mother was that everyone continue to pray for her son.
The man accused of shooting two National Guard members near the White House last week appeared virtually in court Tuesday from his hospital bed, pleading not guilty to multiple felony charges, including premeditated murder.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who came to the United States in 2021 after assisting U.S. forces overseas, is accused of opening fire on Guardsmen Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe during an incident in downtown Washington.
