BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A dispute over a wallet and cellphone escalated into a reported knife threat at a Beckley Walmart, leading to an arrest and felony charges.
According to the Beckley Police Department, officers responded on December 18, 2025, to a brandishing complaint at the Walmart located at 1330 N. Eisenhower Drive. The victims were later instructed to report to the police department to provide statements.
Police said the victims reported that the suspect, identified as Amr Mohamed, had their wallet and cellphone following an encounter the previous night. After multiple failed attempts to recover the property, Mohamed allegedly agreed to meet the group at Walmart to return the items.
The victims stated that while three women went inside the store to retrieve the property, Mohamed remained in the vehicle. Inside the store, Mohamed reportedly reached into his pocket, refused to return the items, and said he wanted to talk outside. Once outside, police said Mohamed demanded $60 before returning the property.
According to the report, when the victim offered to send the money electronically after receiving his phone, Mohamed handed over the phone but continued to withhold the wallet. The situation escalated when Mohamed allegedly pulled out a knife and stated, “Not without the $60.” The victim then called 911, and Mohamed fled the scene.
Officers obtained written statements from all victims and later contacted Mohamed by phone. Police said Mohamed admitted he still had the wallet and acknowledged pulling a knife during the encounter. He refused to return the wallet to the police department, claiming he was owed money.
Several hours later, Mohamed arrived at the Beckley Police Department to return the wallet, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Mohamed is being charged with Attempted Robbery in the First Degree and Brandishing a Deadly Weapon. Walmart surveillance footage is expected to be entered into evidence.
The incident occurred within the city limits of Beckley in Raleigh County, West Virginia. The investigation was handled by Patrolman C. Winnelt of the Beckley Police Department.
