CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Patrick Morrisey has declared a State of Emergency for all 55 counties in West Virginia as a major winter storm is expected to impact the state this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm is forecast to bring significant snowfall and ice beginning Saturday, January 24, and continuing through Monday, January 26, 2026. Snow accumulations are expected to range from nine to 12 inches across parts of the state, with ice accumulations of around two-tenths of an inch possible in some areas.
State officials warn that the combination of heavy snow and ice could lead to dangerous travel conditions, power outages, and disruptions to daily activities. The State of Emergency allows state agencies to coordinate resources and prepare emergency response efforts ahead of the storm.
Governor Morrisey urged residents to closely monitor weather forecasts, avoid travel if possible, and follow guidance issued by state and local emergency management officials. Residents are also encouraged to take steps now to prepare their homes, vehicles, and emergency supplies as hazardous conditions develop.
