BRUCETON MILLS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An inmate at the United States Penitentiary (USP) Hazelton in Bruceton Mills died this week following a medical emergency, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Officials said Jerome Jones, 35, was found unresponsive at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. Staff immediately began life-saving measures and requested emergency medical services.
Jones was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been notified, and the incident remains under review.
Authorities said no staff members or other incarcerated individuals were injured, and there was no threat to the public at any time.
Jones had been serving a 330-month sentence after being convicted in the Western District of Tennessee on charges of carjacking and carrying and using a firearm during a violent crime. He had been housed at USP Hazelton since April 7, 2025.
USP Hazelton is a high-security federal correctional facility.
