WILLIAMSON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An arrest has been made in connection with a December shooting incident in Williamson, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Trooper J.T. Kitts, of the Williamson Detachment, was asked by the Mingo County Prosecutor’s Office on Jan. 15, 2026, to further investigate a shooting that occurred Dec. 19, 2025, on Pike Street.
With assistance from the State Police Crime Scene Team, investigators determined that John Carey, 48, of Williamson, discharged a firearm from inside an apartment building. Authorities say the bullet traveled into a neighboring apartment.
On March 27, 2026, Trooper Kitts obtained and served arrest warrants charging Carey with two counts of wanton endangerment involving a firearm.
Carey was taken into custody and transported to Southwestern Regional Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment.
