FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been sentenced to prison following a high-speed pursuit and multiple felony convictions, according to Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Ciliberti Jr.
George E. “Speedy” Legg, 61, of Gallagher, was sentenced March 31, 2026, by Judge W.E. Sam Fox II to one to five years in prison for fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference to the safety of others.
He also received a consecutive sentence of one to three years for third-offense driving on a license revoked for DUI. In addition, Legg was fined a total of $4,000.
Legg previously entered a guilty plea to both charges on August 25, 2025. He must serve a minimum of two years before becoming eligible for parole.
The charges stem from an incident on May 25, 2024, when a Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Legg along Armstrong Creek Road. The deputy suspected Legg was driving without a valid license based on prior encounters.
Authorities said Legg refused to stop and instead fled, reaching speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone. During the pursuit, he nearly collided with an ATV and another vehicle.
Investigators said Legg also struck the deputy’s cruiser after turning his vehicle around.
The pursuit ended on Craig Hollow Road when Legg attempted to turn around at a locked gate and was taken into custody.
Officials noted that Legg has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple prior convictions for driving on a suspended or revoked license and fleeing from police in several counties.
In 2016, he was convicted in Fayette County of delivery of methamphetamine and third-offense driving on a license revoked for DUI.
The case was investigated by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer D. Crane.
