PHILIPPI, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A devastating house fire on Sand Run Road claimed one life and left another person seriously injured Thursday afternoon.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 12:20 p.m., with multiple departments responding under automatic mutual aid, including Belington Volunteer Fire Department, Junior Volunteer Fire Department, and Nutterfort Volunteer Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived, they found the structure fully engulfed in flames.
Officials confirmed one fatality at the scene. A second victim was located outside the home suffering from burn injuries.
Crews quickly launched an aggressive fire attack using a deck gun and multiple handlines, bringing the blaze under control in about 40 minutes.
The injured victim was transported to a nearby landing zone and airlifted for treatment by HealthNet Aeromedical Services.
Several additional agencies assisted on scene, including the Barbour County Ambulance Authority, Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, West Virginia State Police, Philippi Police Department, and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Chief 4 maintained command throughout the incident.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Authorities extended condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
