DANVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Boone County woman is facing charges after deputies say she set multiple brush fires and threatened nearby residents with a knife Friday morning.
According to deputies, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on April 10, 2026, in the 4000 block of Mud River Road in Danville. Authorities were dispatched following reports of a woman setting fires and brandishing a weapon toward people in the area.
Upon arrival, deputies located Leslie Thompson near several active brush fires. Investigators say Thompson appeared to be living in a makeshift camp on the property, where a large “Rambo-style” knife was found lying nearby.
Deputies reported that Thompson made an unsolicited statement at the scene, saying she was “trying to clear the property.”
Witnesses told authorities they saw Thompson intentionally setting fire to the wooded area. One witness stated that when they attempted to confront her about the fires, Thompson allegedly pulled out a knife and pointed it at them in a threatening manner.
Officials estimate that between six and eight acres had already burned by the time crews arrived.
The property is believed to be privately owned by a resident of Lincoln County.
The investigation is based on deputies’ observations, witness statements, and comments made by Thompson at the scene. Charges are expected as the case moves forward.
