MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities say a reported threat at Cheat Lake Elementary School has been fully investigated and determined to be not credible.
According to a statement released Sunday by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation stemmed from information shared Friday regarding a student allegedly threatening harm to others at the school.
Officials said investigators worked closely with school staff and the Monongalia County Board of Education to thoroughly examine the report.
Following that investigation, authorities concluded that the threat did not pose a legitimate danger.
Despite that determination, law enforcement and school officials plan to maintain an increased presence and implement precautionary measures when students return to school Monday morning.
Sheriff’s officials emphasized their continued commitment to student and staff safety, urging the public to report any concerns while also allowing authorities time to properly investigate such reports.
“The safety of our schools remains our top priority,” the statement said, adding that officials appreciate the cooperation and patience of the community.
