BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A defendant placed on home confinement is facing additional criminal charges after allegedly fleeing a court-ordered treatment facility while still wearing a GPS monitoring device.
According to court documents, the defendant was placed on Home Confinement on March 12, 2026, and was assigned a GPS monitoring bracelet as part of the program’s requirements.
Just three days later, on March 15, authorities say the defendant absconded from Anchor Homes, a treatment facility where he had been ordered by the court to remain.
Officials said the defendant left the facility while still wearing the GPS bracelet. The monitoring device later became impossible to track after the defendant allegedly failed to charge it as instructed, causing the battery to die.
Authorities noted that the defendant had been advised of the rules and consequences associated with home confinement before being released into the program. According to the complaint, the Home Confinement agreement was read to the defendant, who initialed and signed documents acknowledging he understood the conditions and penalties for violating them.
The defendant was reportedly informed that fleeing supervision could result in an escape charge. He was also advised that the GPS monitoring equipment was valued at approximately $1,600 and that leaving with the device could lead to a grand larceny charge if the equipment could not be recovered.
Officials further stated that the defendant did not remove the bracelet and leave it behind, which authorities say would have allowed them to recover the equipment. Instead, the bracelet remained attached and is currently unaccounted for.
As a result of the alleged violation, the defendant is facing charges related to escape and grand larceny.
The case remains pending in court.
