SCARBRO, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Fayette County man is facing criminal charges after deputies say he assaulted and strangled his wife during a domestic violence incident at a Scarbro residence.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, deputies met with the victim on June 13 after she reported an assault that allegedly occurred the previous evening at a home on Cardinal Road in Scarbro.
The victim told investigators she arrived at the residence around 9:30 p.m. on June 12 and found her husband, Shane Johnson, inside the home with a flashlight while allegedly throwing her belongings out the door.
According to the complaint, Johnson began throwing objects at the victim before striking her in both arms with the leg of a table, causing visible injuries.
Deputies say the assault then escalated when Johnson allegedly grabbed the victim by both arms, leaving bruises, before placing his hands around her neck and strangling her.
The victim told investigators the strangulation became so severe that she began to lose her vision, feared she was about to lose consciousness, and believed she was going to die.
During the assault, the victim reported Johnson allegedly told her, “Are you ready to die?”
When speaking with the victim, deputies observed multiple large bruises and swollen areas on both of her arms, as well as a bruise on her chest and red marks on her neck and beneath her chin. Investigators photographed the injuries as evidence.
Johnson is facing charges in connection with the incident.
The allegations contained in the criminal complaint have not been proven in court, and Johnson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
