GLEN JEAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A section of road within the Gauley River National Recreation Area will close beginning Wednesday as crews complete repairs ahead of the 2026 Gauley season.
According to New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Mason’s Branch Road will be closed starting Wednesday, July 29, for approximately 2½ weeks, with the closure expected to remain in place through Thursday, Aug. 20.
During the closure, both commercial and private boaters are asked to use the Wood’s Ferry river access. Park officials said emergency access will remain open throughout the project.
The National Park Service said the closure is necessary to complete critical road repairs in preparation for the upcoming Gauley season.
