SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Summers County teenager seriously injured in a UTV crash in May has returned home after months of medical treatment and rehabilitation, according to the Summers County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a UTV accident on True Road in the Pipestem area on May 25. According to the sheriff’s office, the UTV was occupied by multiple juveniles when passenger Ryleigh Goins was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious bodily injuries.
After receiving medical treatment and rehabilitation in Roanoke, Virginia, and Georgia, Goins returned home to Summers County for the first time since the accident on Friday, the sheriff’s office said.
Chief Deputy Adkins provided a police escort as she made the trip home.
“There are moments in this profession that remind us just how fragile life can be. While not every story has the ending we pray for, today we are blessed to share one that is a true testament to God’s grace, the power of prayer, and the strength of the human spirit,” the Summers County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office said Goins has made significant progress in her recovery.
“While she still has a road to recovery ahead of her, Ryleigh has made incredible progress and has surpassed what many of her doctors expected at this stage. We give God all the glory for the healing He has already provided and pray that He continues to strengthen and guide Ryleigh through the days ahead,” the sheriff’s office said.
The agency thanked the doctors, nurses, therapists, first responders and others involved in Goins’ care.
The Summers County Sheriff’s Office also asked the public to continue praying for Goins and her family.
“Please continue to keep Ryleigh and the Goins family in your prayers. We know that God is not finished with her story, and we look forward to celebrating each milestone as she continues her recovery,” the sheriff’s office said.
