NITRO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two Kanawha County residents have been charged after deputies responding to a medical call allegedly found three young children living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions inside a Nitro residence, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded Friday, July 31, to a home on Red Oak Drive after receiving a report of a man who had suffered a cut to his forearm.
While inside the residence, deputies reported finding extremely unsanitary living conditions throughout the home. According to the sheriff’s office, the floors were covered with mud, trash and debris, insects were crawling throughout the residence, dog feces had been smeared into the floor, broken glass was present in multiple areas, and the home had no running water.
Deputies said two small children were found asleep in a bedroom where they observed dog food, cockroaches and two dogs underneath the bed. A third child was found walking barefoot through the residence and appeared to be extremely dirty, indicating the child had not been properly bathed for an extended period. Deputies also noted that both the front and rear doors of the home were unsecured.
Investigators said they also found drug paraphernalia inside the residence. Multiple firearms and ammunition were allegedly lying on the floor throughout the home, where they were readily accessible to the children.
The sheriff’s office arrested Seth Daniel Lockhart, 28, and Aryanna Marie Evans, 26. Both were charged with child neglect creating risk of injury, a felony offense.
The three children were removed from the home and placed into the custody of Child Protective Services.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office noted that all individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
