MONTGOMERY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman died following an early morning apartment fire in Montgomery on Friday, according to the Montgomery Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 4 a.m. for a reported apartment fire with entrapment after multiple callers reported a first-floor apartment was on fire and that people were trapped inside.
Engine 102 arrived to find smoke coming from the first floor of the apartment building. Residents told firefighters that the victim had already been removed from the apartment by bystanders and law enforcement officers before crews arrived.
Firefighters deployed a 200-foot, 1¾-inch hoseline while other personnel began providing patient care. Crews advanced into the apartment and conducted a primary search ahead of the hoseline, finding no additional occupants.
According to the fire department, firefighters located a small fire inside the apartment that had produced heavy smoke conditions. The remaining fire was quickly extinguished before crews completed overhaul and ventilation operations.
The woman who was removed from the apartment later succumbed to her injuries.
“We extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to her family and loved ones,” the Montgomery Fire Department said.
The Montgomery Fire Department also thanked the Boomer Fire Department and Armstrong Creek Fire Department for assisting at the scene.
