MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two North Carolina men were arrested Thursday following an investigation into the alleged introduction of contraband at Federal Correctional Institution McDowell, according to the McDowell County Sheriffโs Office.
Deputies received a complaint from a concerned citizen on Aug. 27 regarding two men dressed in all-black clothing in the Edmore Village Road area. The individuals were reportedly involved in activity related to introducing contraband into the federal prison.
Deputies responded to the area and began an investigation, which resulted in the arrests of Kewan Shade, 31, and Compton Daugherty, 33, both of Asheville, North Carolina.
Shade and Daugherty were each charged with aiding escape and other offenses relating to adults and juveniles in custody or confinement, along with conspiracy.
The sheriffโs office did not specify what type of contraband was allegedly involved or provide additional details about how it was allegedly being introduced into the facility.
The McDowell County Sheriffโs Office thanked members of the public for providing information and said tips from citizens continue to assist law enforcement in investigating criminal activity.
Shade and Daugherty are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
