COAL CITY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Coal City Elementary School will remain closed Monday, Aug. 31, as Raleigh County Schools continues work aimed at reopening the school early next week.
The school has remained closed since the new school year began in Raleigh County this week, a situation that has prompted frustration among some parents and discussions on social media about the continued closure.
Raleigh County Schools Superintendent Dr. Serena Starcher provided an update Friday, saying environmental and cleaning professionals have been working at the school throughout the week.
“Environmental specialist, and a professional cleaning service, have been on site this week, and have provided input and support as we prepare to open Coal City Elementary School,” Starcher said in the message posted by the school.
Starcher confirmed students will not return Monday but said officials believe the school could reopen shortly afterward.
“While the school will remain closed Monday, August 31st. We believe we will be able to open early next week,” Starcher said.
“Thank you for your patience and have a great weekend.”
The district did not provide a specific reopening date in Friday’s update.
