FAIRMONT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An investigation is underway after an explosion significantly damaged a Fairmont home and left one person injured Monday night.
According to West Virginia State Police, TFC J.P. Thayer responded to a report of a gunshot or explosion at approximately 10:10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7.
When Thayer arrived, he discovered that a residence on Wine Drive had sustained significant damage from an explosion, which authorities said may have been caused by a gas leak.
Stephen Overstreet, 29, of Fairmont, was injured in the explosion. He was flown to a burn center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for treatment.
The local fire department requested assistance from the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate the cause and origin of the explosion.
The investigation remains ongoing.
