KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey has issued a statement following the death of a coal miner at the American Eagle Mine in Kanawha County Thursday evening.
The miner has been identified as Travis Price, 44, who had worked in the coal mining industry for 24 years.
Morrisey expressed condolences to Price’s family, friends and fellow miners following the fatal incident.
“Denise and I are heartbroken to learn of the tragic loss of Travis Price, a coal miner who lost his life at the American Eagle Mine in Kanawha County. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fellow miners as they mourn this terrible loss,” Morrisey said.
The governor also recognized Price’s 24 years of service to the coal industry and the dangerous work performed by miners across West Virginia.
The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety, and Training is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
