BERKELEY COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man wanted on stalking charges in Berkeley County was arrested Friday, October 9, following a coordinated effort between the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, a female victim reported to West Virginia State Police in May 2026 that Gabriel Vega Sotelo had allegedly threatened her with physical harm and continued to harass her.
On September 25, a Berkeley County magistrate issued an arrest warrant for Sotelo on two counts of stalking.
Deputies became involved in the investigation on October 7 and began attempting to locate Sotelo. Investigators learned that he was allegedly aware authorities were searching for him and was taking steps to avoid arrest.
On October 9, deputies received information that Sotelo was staying at a hotel in Inwood. Investigators also learned that he had allegedly entered the United States from Mexico without undergoing immigration inspection.
Berkeley County deputies, working with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), located Sotelo and arrested him in Inwood.
Sotelo was transported to Berkeley County Magistrate Court, where he was arraigned on the stalking charges and released on personal recognizance.
Following his release from court, ICE agents took Sotelo into custody for immigration processing related to his reported unlawful entry into the United States.
