OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Fayette County man was arrested after police discovered approximately 11 grams of suspected illegal drugs during an investigation into a report of a man possibly brandishing a handgun in Oak Hill.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Fayette County Magistrate Court, Shane Jones, 36, of Oak Hill, was arrested following an incident on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., Oak Hill Police Department Patrolman First Class D. Ooten responded to the Broadway Avenue area after Fayette County 911 received a report of a man wearing a gray hoodie and light-colored pants who was allegedly waving a silver handgun while walking toward East Main Street.
Ooten located Jones near Broadway Avenue and Cherry Lane. Due to the nature of the complaint, the officer conducted a frisk for weapons.
A second officer noticed a large object protruding from Jones’ right front pants pocket. When questioned, Jones reportedly described the object as a “plastic thing.”
According to the complaint, Jones acknowledged that the object was used to store drugs and consented to a search of his pockets.
Officers discovered a purple container holding a large quantity of a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine and a smaller amount of a white powdery substance suspected to be fentanyl.
Police also recovered an eyeglass container containing an additional quantity of suspected fentanyl.
During the investigation, the original caller told police she was uncertain whether Jones had actually been carrying a firearm, explaining that the object she observed resembled a handgun.
Jones was taken into custody and transported to the Oak Hill Police Department for questioning.
According to the complaint, Jones told investigators he had purchased the substances earlier that day from an individual known as “Jay” for $120.
Jones initially claimed the drugs were for personal use but later allegedly admitted that he intended to sell small quantities to support his own drug use. He reportedly told investigators that the remaining proceeds would be returned to the individual who supplied the substances.
Police said the suspected drugs weighed approximately 11 grams on an uncertified scale.
The substances and Jones’ cellphone were collected as evidence.
Jones was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and subsequently transported to Southern Regional Jail.
