MONONGALIA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One person was killed and three others were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 68 in Monongalia County Sunday morning.
According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 68 at approximately 8:20 a.m. on October 11, 2026.
A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The crash prompted the closure of Interstate 68 in both directions for approximately two hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased passenger pending notification of next of kin.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the West Virginia State Police, Monongalia County EMS, Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department and Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released.
