FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about a telephone scam involving individuals falsely identifying themselves as deputies and requesting money.
According to the Office of Fayette County Sheriff Jess McMullen, scammers are using the names of law enforcement agencies to intimidate or deceive residents into providing money or personal information.
Officials are reminding residents that anyone receiving a suspicious call should not send money or provide financial information.
Anyone who is unsure whether a call is legitimate is encouraged to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department directly using an official phone number rather than relying on information provided by the caller.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is also encouraging residents to share the warning with family members, particularly elderly individuals who may be targeted by these scams.
