Morgantown 9, Greenbrier East 1
Morgantown – Greenbrier East dropped the last two games of a weeklong road trip Saturday, falling to Morgantown 4-3 and 9-1 Saturday in Morgantown.
In the first game, a 4-3 loss, East put together a late rally, scoring two runs in the bottom of the frame and loading the bases with one out but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game. Brooke Davis, Taylor Boswell and Josi Ervin all collected two hits in the loss.
In the second game Morgantown scored six runs in the first two innings and was never threatened again.
Freshman Hailey Ervin led the Spartans with two of East’s four hits in the loss.
The Spartans will travel to Wyoming East on Tuesday with an 8-8 record.
Independence 8, Tucker County 4
Hedgesville 6, Independence 5
Moorefield – Independence split a doubleheader Saturday at the Bub Riggleman Tournament in Moorefield, beating Tucker County 8-4 before falling 6-5 to Hedgesville on a walk-off error.
In the first game the Patriots rallied form a 4-1 deficit, scoring two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings before a three-run sixth added some breathing room.
Kendall Martin led the charge with two hits, driving in two runs in the win.
In the second game Indy rallied to take a 5-4 lead but a squeeze bunt and error on the play allowed two runs to score, giving Hedgesville the win.
Indy drops to 12-10 and will travel to PikeView on Monday.
Middle School
Wyoming East Middle 8, Midland Trail 5
Hico – Wyoming East East Middle scored two runs in the fifth inning to break a 5-5 tie Saturday, beating Midland Trail Middle 8-5 in Hico.
Abigail Baker hit an inside the park home run for the Lady Warriors in the first inning, staking them to a 2-0 lead and later caused havoc on the base paths. With the score tied she stole second and advanced to third on an error, scoring on a Haley Adkins single that gave East the lead for good.
Emma Simpson collected two hits for East while Paytin Brehm pitched a complete game, striking out 11 batters and allowing four earned runs.
Nevaeh Hall led Trail with a 4-for-4 showing at the plate, driving in three runs.
East improves to 11-0 and will play at Huff Middle on Tuesday.
