The opening day of the Shady Spring Baseball Classic belonged to the big schools.
Beckley opened the day with a 13-3 win over Wyoming East in five innings, while Oak Hill knocked off Greater Beckley Christian 5-2 in the nightcap which went six innings.
The Flying Eagles scored two in the first inning, five in the second and four in the fourth to take control against the Warriors.
Blake Stratton had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs to lead Beckley at the plate.
Chase Tolliver and Reid Warden each had two hits and two RBI.
Isaiah Patterson pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three to get the win.
Oak Hill did all of its damage in fourth inning where it scored all five of its runs to get the win.
Trailing 1-0, Cole Legg doubled home the first run before Aiden Smith hit a double two batters later scoring two more.
Trent Rider had two hits on the night for the Red Devils and drove in one run, while Micah McCarraher hit the third double of the night for Oak Hill.
The schedule for day two has Shady Spring playing Oak Hill at 5:30 p.m. in the opening matchup. Wyoming East and Greater Beckley will play in the 7:45 p.m. elimination game.
Beckley advances to Saturday’s winners bracket game and will play the Shady Spring and Oak Hill winner at 4 p.m.
