A big surprise in Boone County as Josh Holstein has won the District 23 Boone County Delegate race against incumbent Rodney Miller (D). Miller, a former Sheriff of Boone County, was once thought as impermeable to the point that he was considered a potential Minority Leader for the Democrat Party in the Legislature. Holstein, while young, is quite accomplished as he has worked on several Republican Campaigns throughout the State in the last few years.
Holtstein’s campaign focused on a new direction for Boone County, which has been decimated by the decline in the Coal Industry under the Obama Administration. County Coal Severance revenues in the County have been drawn down to numbers below 30% of what they were at their height.
Holstein, a traditional Republican, posed an opposition to Miller that asked basic questions that Miller could not answer. Holstein seeks to implement changes that will progress Boone County and the entire State of West Virginia.
Miller, who was maligned in the campaign for not supporting Veterans in seeking jobs in the West Virginia economy, seems to find an end to his political career that included a stint as Sheriff of Boone County and a long-term stretch as Delegate for Boone County.
Holstein will assume office in January of 2021.
