CHARLESTON , WV (LOOTPRESS) – An Indiana man was sentenced Friday on charges for federal gun crimes.
Reports from the Parkersburg Police Department indicate that Steven Loren Mandrell, 44 of Indianapolis, Indiana, was sentenced to two years and six months in prison Friday, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
These charges are in relation to Mandrell’s status as a felon while possessing a firearm.
Court documents, along with statements made in court on April 20, 2021, officers with the Parkersburg Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Mandrell’s vehicle as it displayed the license plate of a different vehicle entirely.
Mandrell could be seen apparently attempting to conceal something beneath the driver’s seat as officers approached the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed two firearms beneath Mandrell’s seat: a Smith and Wesson .40-caliber pistol and a Bul Transmark 9mm pistol, both of which Mandrell admitted to possessing.
Mandrell was knowingly prohibited from possession of a firearm due to prior felony convictions in Wood County for delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful entry of a building. These charges were issued in Wood County Curcuit Court on January 27, 2010.
Additionally, Mandrell was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and failure to appear in court in Washington County, Ohio, Common Pleas Court on November 28, 2017.
Mandrell’s extensive criminal background spans four states and 26 convictions, including several misdemeanors such as battery, assault, domestic battery, fleeing from an officer, prohibited possession of a firearm, receiving or transferring stolen goods, destruction of property, larceny, and contempt of court.
The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge David A. Faber, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy B. Wolfe.
