James Monroe 5, Mercer Christian Academy 2
Lindside – One night after beating Midland Trail in Hico, the Mavericks topped Mercer Christian 5-2 Thursday.
Dylan Johnson gave the Mavs a 1-0 lead with a a goal in the first minute of play. James Monroe struck again ion the opening minute of the second half on a goal from Thomas Sibold before M.J. Patton cut the lead in half with a strike in the 61st minute of play.
Dylan Johnson pushed the lead back to two goals in the 64th minute, only to see Harley Blankenship pull the Cavaliers back to within one goal just two minutes later.
Cameron Crisp took away any comeback drama with two goals in the final 10 minutes for the 5-2 win.
Mercer Christian (1-5) plays next at Cross Lanes Christian Sept. 9 at 3:30pm. James Monroe (4-1) travels to Pocahontas County Thursday.

Hico – Mary Beth Meadows, Maija Kubis and Zoe Long all scored goals Wednesday to lead James Monroe past Midland Trail 3-2.
Rumor Barnhouse scored on an assist from Addie Isaacs, while Fallon Bragg scored on an assist from Catherine Maxwell for the Patriots.
James Monroe keeper Emma Ballard had 12 saves and Midland Trail keeper Mary McGraw recorded 16 saves.
