ALDERSON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Town of Alderson has put together an extensive schedule of events this year in celebration of the 4th of July.
Things got started earlier in the week with the judging of the home and business decorating contest, for which winners were announced for four categories.
The winners in the “Small House” category in descending order were Victoria Booher, Monica Greene, and Jackie Dunbar, while Dana Renick, Jason McVey, and Diane Lehr were awarded in the “Large House” category.
The Riverview Motel & Cafe took first prize in the “Businesses” category, followed by Fritz Pharmacy and S&M Auto, while Hollie Howard claimed the “Light Display” award.
The weekend celebration is set to kick off at 6:00pm Friday evening with WV Inflatables at Alderson Memorial Football Field. The setup will include bounce houses, water slides, obstacle courses, and more. The Goodson Boys will be at Alderson Memorial Football Field starting at 7:00pm. Admission is free, and events will continue until 10:00pm, rain or shine.
Saturday’s series of events begins with the Run for Snacks 5K race and kid’s fun run walk or run event at 9:00am. All ages are welcome to participate, and registration will be held from 7:30am to 8:00 at the Alderson Public Library. Those who wish to participate can also register online here.
The All American Baking Contest will be held from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. Contest entries must be dropped off between these times. This year’s theme is “Best Decorated Fourth of July Cake.”
At 1:00pm, the sixth annual horse show at 117 Greenbrier River Estates will take place. Registration for this event will begin at 10:00am, and a negative coggins test is required for participation.
From 2:00pm to 4:00pm, the Ice Cream Social will occur at Alderson Depot.
6:00pm to 8:00pm will see the gathering of Alderson High School alumni and friends at the Alderson Branch of City National Bank. Light refreshments will be provided, and Linda Loudermilk can be contacted for those wishing to RSVP.
Saturday night will close out with the Firemen’s Rodeo at Alderson Memorial Football Field. Admission to this event is no cost.
River events at Alderson Mini Park will take place at 1:30pm Sunday afternoon, along with the Men, Women, Children, and Anything that Floats Races.
Gospel singing will take place at Alderson Memorial Football Field at 7:00pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, and in the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Alderson River of Life Church on Route 63.
Activities will start bright and early on Independence Day, with parade line-up beginning at Alderson Elementary School on Virginia Street.
The parade itself will begin at 10:30am, with prizes and awards in several categories available.
A car show at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church parking lot on North Monroe Street will also get going at this time.
Presentation of Colors will occur at 1:00pm at Alderson Memorial Football Field, along with the introduction of Miss Fireworks, awarding of parade prizes, and flag raising by Greenbrier East High School JROTC and the VFW Post no. 6723.
WV Inflatables will also be at Alderson Memorial Football Field from 1:00pm to 9:30pm, and field events including races of all kinds and kid-friendly activities will be held as well. At 4:00pm a tug of war will take place, which will feature Greenbrier vs Monroe and kids tug of war.
Entertainment will begin at 7:30 with The Hillbilly Way at Alderson Memorial Football Field, and continue with the 9:45 introduction of Miss Fireworks 2022 and a 10:00pm grand fireworks display from the Alderson Fire Department. Admission is $5 per person for these events, while children 6 and under get in free.
The Alderson 4th of July Committee, along with the Alderson Fire Department, EMUS, Miss Fireworks Committee, Tri-County Fire Co., and the Woman’s Club of Alderson, will present Ducks on the Greenbrier at 6:00pm on Tuesday.
The rubber duck race at Alderson Mini Park boasts a $5,000 cash prize, along with several other awards. These tickets are currently on sale, and more information on this event, as well as all Alderson 4th of July Celebration events, can be found here.
