CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice today signed a proclamation in observance of the new federal Juneteenth Holiday. This proclamation indicates that Friday, June 18, 2021, will be a State Holiday for all employees.
The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia will follow this observed holiday and will give all employees the day off tomorrow, in addition to Monday, the observed West Virginia Day Holiday.
Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day, Liberation Day and Emancipation Day. It marks the day federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure that all slaves were freed following the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and end of the Civil War.
