BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An arctic blast is set to bring the coldest air of the season to the region beginning Friday, with temperatures expected to remain well below normal through Monday, according to forecasters.

Highs on Friday will struggle to climb out of the mid-30s, marking the start of a significant temperature plunge. Conditions will worsen over the weekend as the arctic air mass deepens. Daytime highs are expected to reach only the low to mid-20s across the lowlands, while the mountains could see temperatures fall into the teens or even single digits.
Forecasters warn that dangerous wind chills will be possible, especially in higher elevations, where strong gusts could make temperatures feel considerably colder. Prolonged exposure may lead to frostbite or hypothermia.
Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and check on vulnerable neighbors, pets, and livestock.
More updates will be issued as the cold pattern develops.
