ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University and the Town of Athens invite you to celebrate community and ring in the Holiday season with them on Tuesday, November 30 at the first ever Holiday Social.
University officials and the Athens Town Council have planned an evening of special events for all ages. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., little ones can have their picture made with Santa in the Alumni Lounge at University Point. There will be complementary hot chocolate and cookies, as well as an opportunity for children to write and mail their letter to Santa. Down the hall in the Wilkes Family Chapel, enjoy seasonal sounds from the ConChords and CU’s band.
The President’s house will be decorated for the holidays and open for tours during this time as well. Enjoy complementary sweet treats, festive music, and a look at the history of the residence. The Concord University Alumni Association will be selling commemorative Christmas ornaments.
Gather around a fire in the back yard and visit with the neighborhood while you wait for a carriage ride down Vermillion Street to take in the holiday decorations and vote for your favorite house. The winner will receive a yard sign and seasonal bragging rights!
Food trucks have been invited to set up in the parking lot beside the President’s house, so work a stop there into your dinner plans. Take your food and a chair down the street for a holiday edition of the town’s “Music in the Park” series.
At 7 p.m., gather in the lawn of the Concord United Methodist Church for a community Christmas caroling event, followed by a brief devotional from Pastor Felicia Wooten Williams and the lighting of a Christmas tree.
