ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Delays were incurred by some Mercer County motorists Monday morning after a multi-vehicle accident led to the shutdown of Athens Road for a period.
The East River Volunteer Fire Department reports that, on Monday, September 18, 2023, just after 7:30am, the department was dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving three cars on Athens Road.
The scene saw response by Squad 51 of the ERVFD, who immediately got to work assisting those at the scene and making efforts to clear the roadway. One lane was soon opened up for the flow of traffic so that drivers could resume their respective commutes.
The ERVFD reminds drivers that in instances of holds on traffic, the roadway in question is generally considered to be unsafe and that responders are consistently offering their greatest possible efforts in ensuring that traffic flow can be resumed as quickly, efficiently, and as safely as possible.
