CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Making his prior announcement official, Republican Delegate Mick Bates has filed to run for the new 9th Senatorial District seat representing Raleigh and Wyoming Counties and part of Fayette County.
Bates, who was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2014, has been a sponsor of legislation to impose term-limits on members of the state legislature. This legislative session marks his final year of four 2-year terms serving the 30th district.
“I made a promise that I would not serve in the same legislative role for more than 8 years. That is why I am following up with my November announcement and officially filing to run for State Senate,” said Bates.
During his time in the House of Delegates, Bates has worked closely with his colleagues to lower taxes, improve broadband, fund roads, and invest in education. These efforts are bringing unprecedented national attention to the Mountain State as more people are realizing that West Virginia is “Open for Business” and “Almost Heaven.”
But Bates does not believe “almost” is good enough.
“We are building a place that people are visiting and deciding to stay. A place to raise families and seniors to enjoy retirement. A place where you can find good work and successful businesses are built. All while enjoying the benefits of mountain living and our way of life,” Bates stated. “We are building a place that isn’t almost heaven, but actually is heaven.”
The success of Bates and other members of the legislature was reflected in this week with the announcement by Governor Jim Justice that three large economic development projects will be locating in the state, investing more than $3 billion and bringing hundreds of jobs.
Bates is a Physical Therapist and the Regional Director of Operations for H2Health, parent company of BODYWORKS. BODYWORKS operates health, fitness and rehabilitation facilities in Beckley and Pineville. He resides in Raleigh County with his wife, Pam, and four children – Callan, Mikeal, Clare and Allison.
