BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Workshop meeting for members of Beckley City Council originally scheduled for Monday has been cancelled.
According to city representatives, an unexpected call has led to the cancellation, as city attorney, William File will be required to depart for an unplanned out-of-town meeting.
The Workshop meeting will reportedly be rescheduled for an as-of-yet unknown date as soon as possible.
Initially announced for Monday, February 5, 2024, at 5:00pm, the meeting was expected to consist of one primary agenda item listed as: “Job description for the position of City Manager and other matters pertaining to this position.”
City Council members voted to pursue a shift to the City Manager form of government in a 4-3 vote at a recent City Council meeting.
This change will see the Mayor assuming what has been described as a figurehead role within the city while the bulk of the authority would be distributed amongst the City Manager and a strong council.
