GLEN WHITE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – With the Christmas season in full swing and the beloved holiday itself fast approaching, community leaders and organizers have been keeping busy doing their part to ensure that everyone throughout the community is able to partake and appreciate the spirit of the most wonderful time of the year.
In the spirit of giving, Fishes and Loaves Ministries with the Beckley Dream Center hit the road Thursday armed with plenty of gifts and food to distribute at several locations throughout Raleigh County.
Along for the ride was Gubernatorial Candidate Chris Miller, whose formal introduction to the voting public of Raleigh County came during the first session of the Raleigh County Republican Executive Committee’s “Meet the Candidate” series of which Miller was the first featured guest on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
Miller and company trekked across the county, hitting three separate distribution locations on Thursday including the Glen White Church of God at Carver Circle, Glen White, Ewing Creek Church at Calvary Lane, Clear Creek, and later at the Dream Center itself in Beckley.
LOOTPRESS caught up with Miller at the Glen White distribution event to chat about the event itself and how he and his team came to be involved.
“We found out there were a bunch of kids in need and wanted to do our part,” he explained. “Even though we’re not from this area, we wanted to make sure we did everything we could do to help.”
The businessman was characteristically enthusiastic about the series of distribution events and the opportunity to provide thousands of dollars in gifts and food to community members in need.
“We’re hitting the Dream Center, Glen White Church of God, and Ewing Creek Church,” said Miler. “We’re going to be giving out an incredible amount of food and Christmas gifts – I believe the total amount is somewhere around $35,000 or $36,000.”
What’s more, rather than a base set of items to be distributed as gifts to those who chose to partake in the event, additional care was taken to determine items exhibited on the Christmas lists of a great many children throughout the community so as to ensure that gifts distributed could be personalized for those receiving them.
“In some of these bags there are shoes, clothing, coats; there are gifts to particularly accommodate what these kids wanted,” Miller continued.
But as far as credit is concerned, Miller is adamant that the organizers at the Dream Center receive the recognition for making possible an event that is certain to brighten up the holiday for kids and adults alike throughout the Raleigh County area.
“These ladies at the Dream Center did a fantastic job of organizing all of this and coordinating with all the local communities and churches.”
