BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Beckley Garbage Disposal has filed with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia to increase customer rates up to 42.65% for garbage collection, transportation, and disposal services.
According to Beckley Garbage Disposal, the proposed rates and changes look to produce approximately $942,736 in additional revenue for the company, an increase in revenue of 20.49 %.
“The increased revenue will support enhanced services,” said Beckley Garbage Disposal in a notice to customers.
“The increased revenue will support software to provide customers with the ability to pay online as well as view invoices and services, provide employee benefits including medical, dental, and life insurance, and a 401k retirement plan to improve employee retention, payroll increase, new trucks to better serve customers, increased maintenance costs on older fleet, new commercial containers to replace containers in need of repairs or retirement, optional cars for residential customers that would like to have a container provided.”
Under the newly proposed rates, residential customers would see the current $22.48 rate jump 21% to $27.20 – a $4.72 increase. Residential on-call customers would see the current rate of $7.01 raised to $10.00, a 42.65% increase totaling $2.99.
Additionally, previously non-existent fees for the restoration of terminated service have been proposed for introduction at $5.00 for those wishing to restore service after cancelling. Optional cart delivery and optional residential cart rental will also purportedly become available for $20.00 and $5.00, respectively.
The proposed changes could reportedly go into effect for bills rendered on and after October 1, 2023, with the earliest effective date for newly altered rates being October 1, 2023, or 30 days after notice of proposed increases have been sent to all customers.
The Commission has purportedly stated that the effective date may be suspended for 120 days from the date of notice given should substantial protest from 750 customers (25%) impacted by the proposed change prior to the effective date.
All protests for the rate are to be directed to Karen Buckley, Executive Secretary of the Beckley Public Service Commission of West Virginia at 201 Brooks Street, Post Office Box 812, Charleston, West Virginia 25323. Written comments and protests should state the case name and number.
