BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Raleigh County is beginning to see the economic effects of an ongoing going water outage affecting the general area
Beckley’s ‘The Water Store’ along Robert C. Byrd Drive closed up shop early Tuesday afternoon, citing lack of availability of any remaining water or water containers.
Retail grocery carriers such as Kroger and Walmart are facing similar issues, with shelves having been completely swept of gallon jugs and other larger containers of water by the afternoon hours.
Cases of bottled water appeared to be rapidly disappearing as well, with customers filing in to get their hands on the resource in the wake of an increasingly alarming shortage throughout Raleigh County.
Outages caused by leaks and burst pipes precipitated by recent freezing weather conditions have contributed significantly to scarcity of water throughout the area.
A Tuesday statement from the Beckley Water Company indicates that the issues are anticipated to be resolved in 48-96 hours.
LOOTPRESS will continue to follow the situation as further developments unfold.
