Blanche Elizabeth “Granny Blanche” Pennington, 96, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, Jimmie, on July 17, 2021 following a long illness. Blanche was born May 18, 1925 in Edmond, WV; she was a daughter of the late Walter and Emma Blanche Holliday Stroud. She loved traveling, quilting, and crocheting. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Concord in Elementary Education, she was a Teacher’s Aide at Central Elementary for 10 years and a Teacher at Cranberry Elementary for 9 years prior to retiring from the Raleigh County Board of Education. Blanche was of the Baptist Faith having attended Beckley Regular Baptist Church where she was part of their Senior’s program. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Lee Pennington; a great grandson, Joshua Herrington; and two sisters, Sarah Stickland and Dora Stroud. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving son, Jim L. Pennington and wife, Ella of Prosperity; a daughter, Diane McNabb and husband, Craig of Woodstock, GA; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Services to celebrate the life of Blanche Elizabeth “Granny Blanche” Pennington will be held 2:00PM Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Kevin Guillion officiating. Following the service, Blanche will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Family and Friends will be serving as pallbearers. Friends may gather with the family Friday from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the funeral home and from 1:00PM until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
